UPDATED ON 27 AUG AT 1500 HRS

            Reportedly, eleven militants have been killed and 15-20 injured in an exchange of fire with Security Forces in South Waziristan Agency.
            According to details, on night 26-27 August at about 2330 hours, around 75 -100 militants attacked Tiarza Fort and Tiarza Bridge Check Post in South Waziristan Agency. Security Forces responded effectively and repulsed the attack.

1.           At 0530 hours, Search and Cordon Operation started at Akhund Qille and Kabbal against the miscreants by Security Forces.

At 0755 hours a Suicide Attack took place at Charbagh Police Station Tehsil Matta. Resultantly, 2 policemen embraced Shahadat and 11 injured including 2 civilians.
Barikot

           An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded closed to Abua police check post 2 kms south of Barikot on Swat-Malakant Road, reportedly 2 civilians were killed and 3 injured.

 

UPDATED ON 22 AUG AT 1700 HRS

           As many as sixteen miscreants were killed today in an exchange of fire with security forces.
            At 1230 hours today Security Forces stopped a vehicle suspected to be carrying miscreants at Sour bridge check post near Doaba, Hangu. Occupants of the vehicle refused to get down from the vehicle, when asked. However, after insistence by Security Forces personnel, one individual got down from the vehicle and started moving towards the check post. He was cautioned to stop and on refusal was engaged with fire. Resultantly he exploded. The remaining miscreants sitting in the vehicle, meanwhile opened fire on the Security Forces personnel deployed at the check post. The vehicle was engaged with fire by the Security Forces due to which vehicle also exploded. It is believed that the explosion took places as another suicide bomber was sitting inside the vehicle. One miscreant has been apprehended alive.
            Initial investigation revealed that both the suicide bombers were of foreign origin.

 
 
UPDATED ON 26 JUL AT 1500 HRS

1.     Indian troops resorted to unprovoked firing on the Line of Control in Batal Sector (Rawalakot) between 1000 to 1100 hours today. The fire was immediately responded by own troops and the locations were effectively engaged from where the fire was being received. Resultantly the fire stopped. A contact was established on hotline with the Indian side and an immediate flag meeting between the local commanders has been demanded.

1.  A spokesman of the ISPR has said that  three officers and three non commissioned officers have today joined the Border Coordination Centre at Torkham. The Officers from Afghanistan National Army and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) had already joined the centre. The officials from Pakistan were awaiting deployment since last three weeks for the want of pre deployment procedural formalities to be completed by ISAF   and Afghan Government.
It may be mentioned here that the aim of this coordination centre is to  expedite the information sharing system against the illegal cross border movement, spokesman concluded.

 
 

UPDATED ON 20 JUL AT 1430 HRS

1.  Fierce fighting between FC troops and militants left at least 5 militants killed and 6 of their vehicles destroyed last night at Tora Warai fort near Doaba in Hangu.
According to information received about 100-120 militants attacked Tora Warai Fort, sometime after midnight. There were 29 FC soldiers in the Fort at the time of attack. The FC soldiers repulsed the attack and valiantly defended the Fort offering stiff resistance to the attackers for 3-4 hours. Meanwhile, FC Officer asked Army for reinforcement. Army immediately dispatched the reinforcements. Army troops engaged the militants and destroyed six vehicles of the fleeing militants. Reportedly 20 militants were also injured in the engagement.
Security Forces have reinforced Tora Warai Fort. Locals of the areas are also helping security forces in fighting the militants who had come from the area outside the District.

1.     On night 10 / 11 July, mortar fire came from Afghanistan side in Angoor Adda sector. Six mortar rounds fell close to own Sera post in the area. Own troops retaliated with fire immediately. Resultantly own six security forces personnel received injuries and a number of causalities were reported on the other side of the border.

     A strong protest has been lodged with headquarters International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

“Pakistan has always provided maximum possible support to maintain peace and stability around the world and has been at the fore front in international peacekeeping missions around the Globe”, this was stated by DG ISPR, Major General Athar Abbas while briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production at the Parliament House today.
            The function was organized by United Nation Information Centre, Islamabad. It was chaired by Senator Nisar A. Memon , Chairman of the Standing Committee on Defence and Defence Production and attended by Members of the Committee, Director General Inter Services Public Relations, Major General Athar Abbas and Representative of United Nations in Pakistan alongwith students of Islamabad Colleges and Media representatives.
            DG ISPR said that presently Pakistan is the largest contributor to UN peacekeeping missions around the World. He further said that the current deployment of Pakistan Army include eight major peacekeeping missions and nine observer missions which makes a total of 10,705 peacekeepers spread over 14 countries.
            In pursuance of Pakistan’s commitment to peace, 98 Pakistani peacekeepers have so far laid down their lives and 93 have been injured in line of their duties.
            He emphasized that with peacekeeping, peace building should also be part a comprehensive response to address the complicated issues that erupt in war – torn countries.
            “ A big challenge to UN is to ensure that a smooth transition takes place from peacekeeping to the conditions of  self sustaining peace and development in the war – ravaged areas,” he concluded.

1.         On 18 May 08, a suicide bomber exploded himself out side Punjab Regimental Centre market at Mardan. Resultantly, 10 individuals including four Security Personnel embraced Shahadat while nineteen others, including four Security Personnel sustained injuries. The injured were evacuated to CMH Mardan and Peshawar.

Rawalpindi, 14 May 08:   A spokesman of ISPR has denied the news item aired on some channels regarding violation of Pakistani Airspace by NATO aircrafts. The spokesman said that there has been no air violation neither firing by NATO aircraft within Pakistani territory. However, NATO aircraft did engage some targets across Angoor Ada within their side of the border.

Rawalpindi, 14 May 08:          A spokesman of ISPR has denied the Indian claim of unprovoked firing by Pakistani Troops on the Line of Control (LOC) in Neelam Valley. The spokesman said that Indian Military Authorities have been informed that no incident of firing from this side of the LOC took place, as claimed.
            A Flag Meeting is also scheduled later in the day to clarify the issue.

Rawalpindi, May 13:                      Commenting on a news item published in a section of press about withdrawal of troops from South Wazirastan Agency (SWA), the spokesman of ISPR said that pulling out troops from SWA will be the decision of the government depending upon the outcome of negotiations between the government officials and Tribes.
            To facilitate the return of displaced personnel, Army has decided to readjust present positions and open various roads linking to different villages and townships in the area for return of the civil population, the spokesman concluded.

2.         Reportedly, at 0850 hrs suicide bomber, who was riding on a cycle Rickshaw, blew himself when stopped by a policeman, standing on a check post. Three personnel embraced Shahadat while suicider was killed in the blast. Four others were also injured.

PAK-AFGHAN BORDER – BAJUR AGENCY
1.         Miscreants attacked check post at Daud Qilla on Afghan Side of the border in the wee hours of the morning.         The exchange of fire continued for some time. Reportedly, 8-10 miscreants were killed and remaining disengaged. Own out post at Nawa pass on Afghan Border also came under fire. The frontier corps troops retaliated with fire. Due to misunderstanding some exchange of fire took place between Afghan National Army troops and Frontier Corps troops on the border. One Frontier Corps Havildar embraced shahadat and one Naik received bullet injuries in exchange of fire. At 1100 hours Afghan National Army troops also approached own post at Nawa Pass in search of miscreants. They were informed that neither the miscreants had come towards our check post nor they were firing from that location. Till receipt of last information, a meeting was being held between the two local commanders to resolve the issue.

1.         At about 0630 hours three vehicles smuggling atta were stopped by security personnel of Fontier Corps Balochistan astride Chaman border. The vehicles did not stop and opened fire on security forces. Frontier Corps troops responded to fire. One of the vehicles stopped due to burst tyres and other two vehicles crossed the border. On the other side, personnel of Afghan border security forces also opened the fire. However, two vehicles managed to flee from the site.
Later a flag meeting was held  at Chaman border to coordinate future action against the movement of smugglers in the area.

These illegal radio stations were intercepted for broadcasting messages of miscreants. During this operation, a large quantity of illegal small arms, ammunition, audio cassettes and provocative literature was also recovered and confiscated.
2.      A wanted miscreant Chamnay along with his accomplice has been arrested by Security Forces in a midnight raid near Chaprial.

Security personnel were alerted and few warning shots were fired in the air to stop the vehicle. The vehicle did not stop; thereafter, security personnel fired on the tyres to stop the vehicle. The vehicle stopped and on inquiry it was revealed that a family comprising one male, three females and two children were travelling from Balasar to Chaprial. As a result of firing, one female was seriously injured. She was provided with first aid and evacuated to Hospital by Security personnel on duty. However, she later sucumbed to injuries.
 2.    Security personnel had no prior information from Police Control  or Media Centre of any civilian vehicle movement during curfew hours. In the past, movement in an emergency has been allowed during the curfew hours with prior information. 
 3.     We deeply regret the incident and loss of precious life.

1.         On 14 March at 3:15 pm, Security Forces captured 2 Double Cabin vehicles on Tank – Jandola Road.  9 Grenades and 5 Small Machine Guns along with 19 magazines and 540 rounds were recovered from the vehicles.

2.         On 11 March, Security Forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a search operation conducted in Namal, Tehsil Matta. Recovered weapons and ammunition included improvised explosive devices, explosives and rounds of different caliber.
3.         On 11 March, 5 militants were arrested by Security Forces during checking at various check posts in Swat.
Shangla
1.         On 11 March, a Free Medical Camp was established by Army in Shangla. A total of 272 patients including female patients and children were treated during the camp.

1.         On 6 March,   miscreants fired rockets on Garhi Sar Top in Darra Adam Khel. Troops retaliated with fire. No loss/damage occurred.

DI Khan
1.         During a search operation in area Spin Kai near Jandola, huge quantity of ammunition was recovered by the Security Forces which includes 4 rounds of Recoilless Rifle,14 rounds of RPG-7, 3 grenades, 17 boxes full of ammunition of small arms of different calibre and 2 rounds of 82mm mortar.

1.         Curfew has been relaxed in complete Swat District from 6 am to 8 pm.
2.        Security Forces conducted search and cordon operation in Matta and surrounding areas today. Two militants were arrested including Umer Said who was involved in beheading of an employee of a Mobile Telephone Company and other terrorist activities. A large quantity of ammunition has also been recovered. Recovered ammunition included 22 rounds of 75 mm Recoilless Rifle, 85 rounds of 12.7 mm Gun, 320 rounds of Heavy Machine Gun and IED making material.

Dera Bugti   
1.         At about 8:30 am, an IED exploded near a Security Forces vehicle at Och Gas Field. One Frontier Corps personnel embraced shahadat, while two others were injured.

Lahore

1.     At about 1310 hrs, three explosions occurred in the premises of Pakistan Navy’s War College Lahore. One of the two suicide bombers approached the rear gate of the college, and when stopped by the security guard he exploded himself, whereas, Second bomber tried to enter but was challenged promptly by the security guard and he also exploded himself in the transport shed of the college located next to the gate, setting on fire few college vehicles. This also resulted into another explosion when a CNG cylinder of a car, parked near by, exploded. Body parts of both the suicide bombers have been found. Due to strict security arrangements of the War College, number of causalities remained limited to those present near the gate. In the said incident, three Naval personnel have embraced Shahadat. Fourteen other were injured while one was critically wounded.
            Chief of the Naval Staff has expressed deep regrets on the incident and solidarity with bereaved families.

2.       Security Forces arrested 10 militants during search and cordon operation in Kuza Bama Khela, Matta, today.

 3.       Two miscreants have been arrested from Fiza Ghat check post. One arrested miscreant Miraj Din S/O Hayat Din is involved in the beheading of police personnel in Charbagh area. The other miscreant Luqman S/O Bakht Jumair is a close associate of miscreant leadership.

Mohamand Agency

1.      In Naqhai Kandao, 5 militants have been killed in an exchange of fire with the Security Forces. Reportedly in late afternoon, six militants on board double cabin pickup approached a Security Forces Check post. During routine checking, a miscreant tried to lob a grenade on the Security Forces check post. Security Forces personnel retaliated and responded with fire. In an exchange of fire, the vehicle exploded killing all five militants on spot. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested by the Security Forces. Reportedly, there were 2 suicide bombers inside the vehicle.

1.        Curfew has been relaxed in complete Swat District including Mingora from 6 am to 8 pm. It may be recalled that earlier this morning, curfew was imposed in Mingora.

2.         Army is providing assistance to the Civil Administration in the evacuation and medical treatment of victims of Mingora bomb blast. Two MI – 17 helicopters have been made available for speedy evacuation of serious patients. Moreover, evacuation of patients by road and people coming from the outskirts of the area to attend Namaz-e-Jinaza are being facilitated by Security Forces.Required stock of blood have been provided to Saidu Sharif hospital and more being provided.
Dir
1.         On 29 February, Army Troops distributed rations amongst 500 families in Lal Qila, District Dir. In total 10 tons of flour, 1 ton of pulses, 200 Kgs each of suji, rice and ghee, 125 Kgs of tea and 100 Kgs of milk powder were distributed. Locals appreciated the efforts of the Army for providing assistance to the needy.

Bajaur
1.         At about 10:45 am, a suicide attack occurred on a Levies’ vehicle in Khar Bazar, Bajaur.  9 Levies personnel and 11 civilians were injured. The attacker was also killed.
