The benchmark of a free society is based on the proper and smooth functioning of all the machinery of organization. In a free society, organizations function more effectively with public good will and support, the Armed Forces are no exception. Effective public relations succor to cultivate and ensure public support for all the work we do. Every service member in his capacity has a role to play in representing the public image of the Armed Forces, but there are real challenges facing those with public relations responsibilities. In today’s world, the media have emerged as powerful tool than ever before, more demanding of our time and far more sophisticated in their use of technology.
To keep the pace with the modern times, the PR requirements of the Armed Forces are looked after by the ISPR Directorate. ISPR Directorate was established in 1947. The Directorate is staffed with military and civilian officers. It functions as a part of the Joint Staff Headquarters and garner national support for the Armed Forces and strengthen their resolve to accomplish the assigned mission while undermining the will of the adversary, it also acts as an interface between Armed Forces, media and the public. It formulates the media policy, safeguard negative influences on the Armed Forces and monitor mass media and discern contours of hostile psychological campaigns for effective response. |
