ISPR Update - 9 December 2009

1. In operation Rah-e-Nijat, so far 589 terrorists have been killed while 79 security forces personnel embraced shahadat.

2. South Waziristan - Operation Rah-e-Nijat. Details of last 24 hours are as follows:-
a. Jandola Sector. Sanitization of Aka Khel Pungai near Ahmedwam and Abdullah Noor Kaskai near Kotkai was carried out. A number of IEDs were recovered and destroyed.
b. Shakai Sector. Security forces apprehended 5 suspects at Miachan Baba and Shakai.

c. Razmak Sector
(1)Security forces cleared 25 compounds at Tara Tiza Alghad and Mairobi Raghzai. Huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered.
(2) Terrorists fired 1 rocket at Razmak Camp which was effectively responded. No loss reported.
(3) Security forces cleared Ghujre 2 kilometer north of Pash Ziarat. Tunnels and underground living bunkers discovered and destroyed.

2. Swat – Malakand – Operation Rah-e-Rast
a. 2 terrorists voluntarily surrendered themselves to security forces at Salhand and Chamtalai post.
b.   Security forces apprehended 10 suspects at Saidu Sharif, Fizaghat, Bishbanr, Mingora and Jijal Kandao near Fatehpur.

3. Relief Activities. 20,321 Cash Cards have been issued to displaced families of Wazirsitan.

4. Since start of Operation Rah-e-Nijat on 16 October 2009, huge cache of arms and ammunition have been recovered from different hideouts of fleeing terrorists. Details of recovered arms / ammunitions are as under:-

Rawalpindi - December 9, 2009: 

Inauguration ceremony of Satellite Communications Laboratory was held at Military College of Signals (MCS), a campus of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). Major General Shahid Maqbool, Commandant of the college was chief guest on the occasion.

MCS being a centre of Excellence for Telecommunications has taken certain steps towards development of human resource in satellite Communication Systems Design. Establishment of this Satellite Communications Lab comprising of two earth stations linked together using a space segment in C-Band is one step towards this direction. This unique facility is first of its kind in any University in Pakistan. It will provide a state of the art training centre to develop an in depth understanding of the major aspects of Satellite Communication Systems and carrying out research in this field.

The facility will provide an opportunity to the faculty, students, researchers and industry to explore the field of Satellite Communications. MCS intends to conduct a series of seminars and workshops on Satellite Communications System design using this facility.

The ceremony was attended by delegates from different military and industrial organizations.
