125th Corps Commanders’ Conference

125th Corps Commanders’ Conference was held today at General Headquarters Rawalpindi. The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani chaired the meeting. Corps Commanders and Principal Staff Officers attended the conference.

The Participants were given comprehensive overview of the security situation in and around the Country. Measures undertaken in this regards were also discussed. The forum showed satisfaction over the operational preparedness of the Army.

ISPR UPDATE – 6 JANUARY 2010

1.         South Waziristan - Operation Rah-e-Nijat.   Details of the operations of last 24 hours are as follows:-
a.        Jandola Sector
. Special Support Group carried out registration of Individuals in Jani Khel and Hawaid area.
b.        Shakai Sector. Security forces commenced search and clearance operation at Badar valley.

c.        Razmak Sector
a. Security forces conducted search and clearance operation in Sherkai near Razmak and cleared more than hundred houses.
b. Terrorists fired number of rockets at security forces at Tabai Sar near Razmak. Resultantly 1 soldier embraced Shahadat while 2 were injured.

2.       Swat – Malakand – Operation Rah-e-Rast. Security forces conducted search operation at Barrarai near Khawazkhela, Chinkolai, Gidar Sar Banda near Khawazakhela, Akbarabad near Mingora, Dangram, Gadakot, Mingora city, Panr, Haji Baba Chowk, Balat and Sar Banda near Chuprial and apprehended 2 suspected terrorists while huge cache of arms and ammunitions were also recovered.

Deputy Speaker National Assembly Mr Faisal Karim Kundi inaugurated the 11th National Security Workshop-2010 at National Defence University (NDU), Islamabad. Senators, Members National Assembly, Provincial Assemblies and Legislative Assembly AJK and distinguished members both from public and private sectors are participating in the workshop.

Lieutenant General Muhammad Yousaf, President NDU delivered his welcome address and highlighted the aims and objectives of the Workshop.

Speaking on the occasion the Deputy Speaker National Assembly Mr Faisal Karim Kundi congratulated the participants for their nomination to attend National Security Workshop. He commended the efforts of National Defence University for running workshop of such a nature, only of its kind in Pakistan. While addressing the participants he said that, "The National Security Workshop aims to acquaint you with the process and methodology of formulating National Policies and Strategies through an institutionalized approach".

He further said that, one it will provide the participants a platform where they will be able to debate the national issues without any prejudice. Second these workshops are promoting a culture of tolerance and accommodation which again is lacking in our society. He added that such workshops are contributing in the overall effort of reducing the communication gap between various stake holders thus enabling each one of them of better understanding of National security issues.

The delegation remained with the Chief of Army Staff for some time and discussed matters of mutual interest.
