The Tripartite Commission composed of senior military representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan and Coalition Forces in Afghanistan, held its 30th meeting in Rawalpindi today. Delegations were headed by General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army, General Stanley A. McChrystal, Commander International Security Assistance Forces, Afghanistan and Lieutenant General Sher Muhammad Karimi, Director Operations of Afghan National Army.
The meeting reviewed the security situation in areas along the Pak- Afghan Border and discussed measures to improve the effectiveness of ongoing operations in the respective areas. The participants showed satisfaction in the existing level of cooperation.

General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) who is on an official visit to Sultanate of Oman for ‘Bilateral Defence Talks’ on the invitation of Chief of Staff Sultan’s Armed Forces (COSSAF), called on His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and exchanged views on range of issues with specific reference to security situation in South Asia, Gulf Region, and Middle East, impact of emerging traditional and non traditional challenges on Pakistan and Oman, maritime security situation in North Arabian Sea, progress of bilateral defence and security cooperation and other matters of mutual interest. CJCSC briefed the dignitory on the challenging security dynamics in Afghanistan and ongoing efforts by Pakistan against terrorism and violent extremism, especially the progress of security enforcement operations in FATA, Malakand and Swat. While extending felicitations on the 40th Anniversary of Sultan’s accension to throne, CJCSC, General Tariq Majid lauded the visionary and sagacious policies of his rule that have ushered in remarkable progress in development, modernization and prosperity to Oman and helped promotion of peace and stability by maintaining harmonious relations with the neighbouring and regional states. General Tariq Majid further said that due to physical contiguity and overlapping maritime boundries, Oman is virtually the 5th neighbour of Pakistan. Therefore its mutually beneficial bilateral defence and security cooperation with Oman is primarily driven by the desire to advance shared security goals and promote regional peace and stability to allow the economic progress and prosperity of the people His Majesty, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said appreciated Pakistan’s resolute comprehensive efforts and enormous sacrifices in the struggle against terrorism and violent extremism and reiterated his abiding commitment of support to Pakistan in dealing with its multiple challenges. He also expressed brotherly solidarity with the government and people of Pakistan, and remarked that Sultanate of Oman will continue to seek new avenues of expansion in mutually helpful economic and defence cooperation with Pakistan. Earlier in the morning on his arrival from Pakistan at Muscat International Airport, General Tariq Majid was received by Lieutenant General Ahmed Bin Harith Al Nabhani (COSSAF), Mr Sohail Amin, Ambassador of Pakistan to Oman and other senior officers of Royal Armed Forces of Oman.

Major General Sahibzada Isfandiyar Pataudi has been appointed as Chairman Pakistan Polo Association (PPA).
Major General Pataudi is a 3-goal handicapped polo player himself with over 25 years of experience playing the sport both in Pakistan and aboard. He has represented the Pakistan Army on several international tours and also served as Chief of Staff of the committee that organized the 2004 Polo World Cup playoffs in Pakistan.
Major General Pataudi’s father and grandfather were both polo players and founding members of Lahore Polo Club; he is expected to spearhead an organized effort to streamline polo playing talent in the country.

Lieutenant General Shahid Niaz, Engineer-in-Chief, Pakistan Army visited the disaster site, Ataabad, near Hunza, Gilgit to assess the ground situation before launching an operation to restore the flow of River Hunza today.
He along with a team of Engineers and FWO evaluated various contingencies to perform the rehabilitation tasks.
Lieutenant General Shahid Niaz appreciated the efforts of FCNA troops, who conducted a massive relief and rescue mission in a swift and professional manner and saved the lives of thousands of individuals stranded in extreme cold weather.
Major General Najeebullah Khan, Director General FWO and other military and civil officials were also present on the occasion.

Participants of National Security Workshop – 11th, being held at National Defence University visited General Headquarters today.
During the visit, participants were given a comprehensive briefing on "Pakistan Army, Challenges and Response" by Major General Javed Iqbal, Director General Military Operations, the ingenuous interactive session was followed after the formal briefing.
National Security Workshop is being organized by the National Defence University to study the national security perspective, concepts, policies and strategies in today’s globalized world. The purpose of workshop is to make the participants aware of importance of interaction within the elements that constitute the national security.
The National Security Workshop is being attended by Senators, MNAs, MPAs and distinguished members from various segments of society both from Public and Private sector.
