Pakistan on the request of  UN  has shifted one of its Battalion from Liberia to Ivory Coast for security duties in the forthcoming run off Presidential elections on 28th November. UN has requested Pakistan to authorise shifting of one of its Battalions from Liberia to Ivory Coast. Pakistani troops were shifted today from Liberia to Ivory Coast. It may be mentioned that in view of Pakistan Army's highest standing, respect and trust in the UN, its troops are being deployed in the most challenging sector in Ivory Coast. The Government of Pakistan takes pride in being the largest contributor of peace keepers around the World and reaffirms its resolve to uphold all its commitments in ensuring global peace.
It may be mentioned that  Presidential Elections in Ivory Coast were held on 30 Oct 2010 and no candidate could get clear majority. Resultantly, Run Off Elections are scheduled for 28 Nov 2010. As  per the UN assessment, the security situation may deteriorate during post election period in Ivory Coast which can result into violence threatening peace in the region.
