Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Mohmand Agency today. His visit coincides with successful beginning of Phase-2 of Operation Brekhna launched to clear Suran Sector adjoining Afghanistan border. Earlier the Army had successfully cleared Dawezai area eliminating terrorists’ influence.

The operation to clear Mohmand was launched under strong demand of local population and political administration of the area who were constantly being subjected to terrorists’ atrocities spanning suicide bombings, target killing of tribal Maliks, kidnappings for ransom and other extortions.

COAS also interacted with the troops and local elders who had displayed firm resolve and rendered supreme sacrifices to oppose the rein of terror in the area. He also lauded the efforts of Political Administration for efficiently managing more than 50,000 displaced persons as a result of military operations and ensuring return of approx 45,000, in record time.

Earlier on arrival, COAS was received by the Corps Commander Lieutenant General Asif Yasin Malik.
