Baku, Azerbaijan - October 8, 2009: 

General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), who is visiting Azerbaijan for Bilateral Defence Talks, met this morning Mr Arthur Rasizade, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr Yaver Jamalov, the Minister of Defence Industry and other senior defence officials. Later during the day he also visited the Armed Forces War Academy, Military Training Centre and Combat Simulation Centre of Azerbaijan.

The discussions during the meetings with the Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Industry primarily focused on sharing of assessments of the security situation in South Asia and Caspian Caucassus regions respectively, progress in efforts to eradicate terrorism and violent extremism, review of the current status of bilateral defence relations and specific measures to enhance future collaboration, specially in training assistance, intelligence sharing and mutually beneficial cooperation in defence industrial sector.

The Chairman JCSC also highlighted the need to bolster economic ties through enhancement of bilateral trade and joint investments in areas of interest, particularly to help energy security. He also solicited Azerbaijan Government's support for Pakistan's entry in Transport Corridor Europe - Caucasus - Asia.

Rawalpindi - October 8, 2009: 

1.   Search and clearance operations are continuing in Swat and Malakand.

2.    Swat

       a.  Security forces conducted search operation in Tilligram, 

            Benjot, Seer, Mangaltan and killed 12 terrorists.

       b.  7 terrorists surrendered themselves to security forces at Derai.

       c.  Security forces conducted search operation at Kasona and killed 5 terrorists.

       d.  Security forces conducted search operation at Goratai Kandar, Banjot and Garai Killa and 

           apprehended 5 suspects.

      e.  Search and clearance operation conducted by security forces in Baz Darra Bala and Palai and

           apprehended 8 terrorists.

3.    Waziristan. Terrorists fired 8 rockets at Razmak Camp. Resultantly 4 soldiers were injured.

4.    Relief Activities. 310,022 cash cards have been distributed amongst the IDPs of Malakand
