Rawalpindi - October 13, 2009: 

General Ilker Basbug, Commander Turkish Armed Forces visited General Headquarters today and called on Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani. The visiting dignitary remained with him for some time and discussed matters of mutual interest. He was also given briefings on various professional issues. The visit signifies the unique and brotherly relations enjoyed by the people and Armed Forces of both the countries.

Earlier on arrival at General Headquarters, General Ilker Basbug, Commander Turkish Armed Forces laid wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada. A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented the Guard of Honour. During the day long visit he also called on the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and visited National Defence University.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani today visited Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi. COAS inquired about the health and well being of wounded soldiers of Operation Janbaz. He appreciated their performance and high morale.

Rawalpindi, October 13:

1.         Search and clearance operations are continuing in Swat and Malakand.

2.         Swat

a.         During search operation 26 terrorists voluntarily surrendered themselves to Security forces at Fazl-e-Haq College near Sakhra.

b.         7 terrorists voluntarily surrendered themselves to security forces at Runial, Barshaur and Chuprial.

c.         Security forces conducted search operation in Baro Kandao and discovered / destroyed a small training camp comprising 4 tunnels and apprehended 3 terrorists.

d.         Security forces conducted search operation in Delai Bara Banda and killed 4 terrorists.

e.         Security forces conducted search operation in Kuz Banjir Banda near Barikot and killed 1 terrorist while 2 were apprehended.

3.         Waziristan.       Terrorists fired 31 rockets at convoy near Razmak Camp. Resultantly, 2 soldiers were injured.

4.         Relief Activities.  311,331 cash cards have been distributed amongst the IDPs of Malakand.
