Rawalpindi - November 4, 2009: 

The COAS, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani visited Gujranwala Garrison today and attended a session of Army War Games organized to determine the operational preparedness of the formations.

Earlier, on arrival at Gujranwala, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kaynai was received by the Corps Commander, Lieutenant General Nadeem Taj.

Rawalpindi - November 4, 2009: 

 

1. South Waziristan - Operation Rah-e-Nijat

a. Today the security forces advanced into the stronghold of terrorists, the town of LADHA, amidst heavy clashes and street to street fighting.
b. In last 24 hours, 30 terrorists have been killed while 8 soldiers including 2 Officers and 1 Junior Commissioned Officer injured. Details of operations are as follows:-
(1) On Jandola – Sararogha Axis.
(a) Security forces have cleared major part of Sararogaha. During engagements 16 terrorists have been killed. While 7 soldiers including 2 officers and 1 Junior Commissioned Officer got injured.
(b) Security forces also secured Prato Narai and Point 16242 west of Sararogha.
(2) On Shakai – Kaniguram Axis
(a) Today security forces entered into the important stronghold of terrorists, the town of LADHA. Intense fighting is taking place in streets. 10 terrorists have been killed.
(b) Security forces are also securing surrounding ridges and heights. During search operation at Mingora Sar security forces recovered:-

(i) 6 x Drums Magazines filled.
(ii) 16 Magazines all types.
(iii) 3 x Grenades.
(iv) 6 x IEDs.
(v) 1 x Blasting Machine
(vi) 1 x Pistol with ammunition
(vii) Swords and Knives

(3) On Razmak- Makeen Axis
(a) Security forces have completely secured the village of China and are consolidating their positions.
(b) Huge cache of arms and ammunition discovered from different compounds and a number of IEDs have been neutralized. During engagements 4 terrorists have been killed and one soldier got injured.

2. Swat – Malakand – Operation Rah-e-Rast
a. In last 24 hours, 24 suspects have been apprehended from different areas of Swat and 2 terrorists have voluntarily surrendered.
b. Security forces apprehended a suspect (believed to be finance manager) of local terrorist group at Bakht-e-Man in village Jabrai and recovered Rs 815,500.00.
c. Security forces conducted search operation at Miandam and discovered 2 tunnels.

3. Relief Activities

a. Army Field Hospital has treated 890 displaced patients of Waziristan.
b. 7,518 cash cards have been distributed amongst the displaced families of Waziristan.

Mr. Eimert Van Middelkoop, Minister for Defence, Netherlands, called on General Tariq Majid, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) at Joint Staff Headquarters, Chaklala and discussed regional security situation, bilateral defence ties and other matters of mutual interest with particular focus on developments in Afghanistan and ongoing operations in FATA.
    Chairman JCSC thanked the Dutch Government for its contribution in the efforts to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan and support rendered to Pakistan in Friends of Democratic Pakistan Forum as well as financial assistance to rehabilitate the internally displaced people (IDPs) in Malakand.
Both the leaders also agreed on the need to transform bilateral defence cooperation into a long term and enduring partnership especially in the fields of training and defence industrial cooperation.
Appreciating Pakistan’s efforts in dealing with its multiple security challenges, the visiting dignitary thanked Pakistan for its support, especially in provision of logistic transit facilities to their troops operating in Afghanistan.

Minister of Defence Netherlands, HE. Mr E Van Middelkoop visited General Headquarters today and called on Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.

The visiting dignitary remained with him for some time and discussed the matters of mutual interest.
