Rawalpindi - February 17, 2017: 

COAS made telephone call to US General John Nicholson, Resolute  Support Mission (RSM) Commander in Afghanistan. COAS expressed his concerns over continued acts of terrorism in Pakistan with impunity from Afghanistan. Most of the incidents in Pakistan are claimed by terrorist organisations with leadership hiding in Afghanistan. COAS said that such terrorist activities and inaction against them are testing our current policy of cross border restraint. COAS asked Commander RSM to play his role in disconnecting this planning, direction, coordination and financial support. COAS also informed him about list of terrorists handed over to Afghan authorities for action against them who are hiding inside Afghanistan since long.

US General expressed his condolences on loss of precious lives in recent terrorist incidents and assured him full assistance in response to his concerns. The General also shared his plans to undertake special coordination at appropriate level between RSM, Afghan Security Forces and Pakistan.

Operations Update

As ordered by COAS last night, response to recent Ts incidents is in progress across the country. Following actions have been undertaken:-

> IBOs and combining operations are in progress across the country including Punjab. Over 100 terrorists have been killed since last night and sizeable apprehensions also made. Details will be shared.

> Intelligence agencies are making progress to unearth networks behind recent Ts incidents. Outcome will be shared.

> There are linkages of support for these incidents from across the border. The border has been closed since last night due to security reasons. No cross border / unauthorised entry will be allowed to Pakistan from Afghanistan. Security forces have been given special orders in this regard to have strict watch all along the border.

> Afghan authorities have been given list of 76 terrorists who are hiding across since long and planning / directing / supporting Ts activities in Pakistan. Afghan government has been asked to target them / hand them over to Pakistan.

> Terrorists' hideouts on Pak-Afg Border have been effectively targeted.

COAS said, "Army is for security of People of Pakistan against all types of threat. Nation to stay steadfast with full confidence in their security forces. We shall not let the hostile agenda succeed whatever it may cost".

In wake of recent upsurge in terrorist incidents in the country, search and combing operations in areas of Rawalpindi District have been enhanced and security apparatus has been put on high alert. A conference chaired by Commander Rawalpindi Corps and attended by high-ups of law enforcement agencies was held today to take a stock of security situation and review the response mechanism to deal with the terrorists threat. Security forces and intelligence outfits have been instructed to further intensify combing and targeted operations with the aim to eliminate terrorists and sleepers cells.
